God loves us

Like a good Father who loves His children more than they could ever know, God loves each and every one of us and it’s no accident that we are in the world. He wanted you to be on planet earth and He wants you to come and know Him.

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God.” (1 John 3:1)

We have sinned

But, like a rebellious teenager that thought they knew better, we have each gone our own way instead. We wanted to do life our way, on our terms, with no regard for God and this causes a break in the relationship. This is the heart of what the Bible calls sin.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23)

Jesus died for us.

Imagine that someone loved you so much that they were willing to lay down their life for you. This is what Jesus did when He died on the cross. He was paying the penalty that our sin deserved, taking the blame so to speak so that we could be forgiven. This means the divide in the relationship can be restored.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

We need to decide how to respond

True love never forces itself on anyone, it allows you the freedom to respond. In the same way God gives us the choice. Will we respond by putting our faith in what Jesus did for us and start to live a life following Him? Or will we reject this offer and carry on living life as normal? To put your faith in Jesus means:
- Accepting you have done wrong and asking God for forgiveness
- Beleiving that Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for your wrongdoing
- Comitting to living a new life following Jesus

“to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”(John 1:12)

Prayer
Here’s a prayer you can pray to help you with this:

"Father God, thank you that you love me.
I want to say sorry for all the wrong I have done in my life. I ask for your forgiveness.
Thank you Jesus that you died on the cross to pay the price for my sin.
Today I turn from my old way of life and put my trust in you.
I ask that you would come into my life and help me live a new life following you.
Amen.
